You will report to our Client Delivery Manager. You will be asked to work as part of a diverse team, delivering design technical excellence across Gatwick Airport and UKPN Services contracts portfolio that will place UK Power Networks Services in the top tier for design and build of private assets on safety, customer service and efficiency.

The Design Engineer will have the responsibility for delivering designs. They will ensure that UKPN Services produce high-quality design solutions that comply with relevant legislation, client and UKPN Services standards.

You will provide technical liaison with suppliers, and clients for creating new business and delivering projects.



Typical accountabilities for the Design Engineer will include:

  • Producing designs for clients across the UKPN Services business which provide Good Industry Practice
  • Providing technical input to the Gatwick team and into Assist with UKPN Services bids
  • Ensure that design solutions meet client specifications and promote the development of tender submissions
  • Assess cost/benefit trade-off of technical solution and support the technical decision-making processes
  • Identify areas for technological advancement whilst maintaining excellent engineering standards



Annual Works Costs: Projects in the value of £5k to £50m. 



  • Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science
  • Working towards achieving Chartership
  • Membership of a professional body such as the IET
  • Knowledge of 18th Edition Regulations for LV systems
  • Knowledge of Power distribution, HV Systems up to 33KV
  • Knowledge of SCADA, and Communication systems
  • Basic knowledge of project management
  • 5 Year Traceable work history (Gatwick Airport security requirement)
  • Full driving Licence.

  • Meet and fulfil all UKPNS Health and Safety requirements.
