The Enterprise Division comprises three companies: Contracting, Telecoms and Distributed Energy.

SSE Distributed Energy is the Energy Services, Smart Cities and Private Networks business of SSE plc. We finance, own, operate and maintain energy infrastructure for commercial, industrial and residential customers - providing them with a market leading project development service and certainty of operational performance and asset management.

What is the Role?

Due to continued growth in the Distributed Energy (DE) business, we have an opportunity for an experienced Bid Manager. This role is part of the Bid Management team within the Business Development Directorate of DE and is an essential part of our work winning approach to formal bids. The role is focused on the creation of compelling bespoke proposals and tender responses for strategically important bids, particularly in the emerging areas of local and smart energy systems as well as smart cities and places.

The role will be to oversee the completion and submission of a complete bid or to provide expert input to defined aspects of larger, more complex pursuits, ensuring timely and quality delivery within budget at all times. Working under the overall direction of the Head of Bid Management, the successful candidate will be involved in every aspect of pre tender activity, qualification and the development of world-class submissions by building a clear understanding of client needs, our win themes and differentiators to create winning bids.

You will be skilled organiser and able to coordinate and drive the wider project team and subject matter experts cost, technical and other inputs to ensure a winning and compliant bid is produced. You will also support the company's governance processes and be comfortable interacting, advising and providing constructive challenge at all levels of the organisation.

Working across multiple projects, key duties within the role are:

- Creating compelling proposals and bid responses, liaising and drawing insight from business development and specialists across the business.

- Creating high quality content in response to major tenders, including bid writing and working closely with our marketing team and external agencies.

- Tender response delivery and project managing the tender process in conjunction with our internal governance processes and client requirements.

- Bid team management and ensuring indirect resource inputs are prepared and delivered in line with the bid requirements.

- Executing bid governance and ensuring the sufficiency of critical review processes.

What do I need?

You will have extensive experience as Bid Manager with significant involvement of operating successfully in a large corporation, preferably involved in the Energy, M&E Contracting, Energy Services, Technology and/or Facilities Management industries.

Practical knowledge of bid methodology and processes from sales pursuit to post-award activities with significant experience in cross-business, high value bids exceeding £10m is highly desirable.

Demonstrable leadership skills to drive the work of collaborative virtual teams in planning, designing and delivering solicited proposals and tender responses is required. You'll have strong people management skills with the ability to motivate and coach bid teams.

Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills and the gravitas to engage with senior colleagues to meet challenging bid goals will aid you greatly in this position.

You will have brilliant technical writing skills and prior knowledge of generating compelling proposal content. Furthermore, confidence in the use of software packages to aid in the creation and maintenance of complex documentation is required.

Ideally you will have operated successfully within a matrix management structure combined with a successful track record of operating across vertical business markets.

Finally, an excellent knowledge of the industry best practice required to create high quality tender responses for large, sophisticated customers with multi-service requirements.
