JOB PURPOSE:

The business is going through a growth phase, targeting and winning new work with new clients across the north of England. Excellence in delivery is an essential part of building our brand and reputation with new clients. You will mobilise and build a portfolio of project and maintenance contracts with all clients to achieve this objective.

This is a client-facing role and you will need to provide excellent service to clients, ensuring that all contracts are delivered to time, cost, quality and legislative requirements.

You will provide value to the business by ensuring the financial performance of all contracts, delivering contracted works and also developing further opportunities as work progresses.

Appropriate resources will need to be put in place, using a combination of directly employed staff and subcontract arrangements to meet the requirements of a growing business. You will ensure that all people employed in the delivery team work safely, follow the required safe working practices and uphold the principles of the company philosophy on safety.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Achieve a safe working environment by ensuring that all work is carried out in compliance with UKPN policies, procedures, current legislation and any specific client requirements. This will involve but not be limited to development and implementation of safe systems of work, project safety plans, work package plans, safety briefings and other associated documentation. It will also be expected that regular planned and unplanned safety inspections are undertaken.
  2. Establishing good working relationship and collaborative approach with Clients and partners. Manage the delivery of Clients’ requirements in a safe and considered manner demonstrating value for money in all dealings.
  3. Financial performance of contracts, ensuring rigorous cost control and that change and risk management procedures and followed.
  4. Planning, acquisition and deployment of resources to ensure optimal allocation and delivery of contracts.
  5. Work with procurement and commercial colleagues to ensure future contract resource requirements and available in a cost-effective prompt manner and that the supply chain is effectively managed.
  6. Manage a team of people through the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects including design, mobilisation, construction, monitoring, budget control, change control and progress reporting to agreed timescales.
  7. Ensure validation and verification of information and essential issues to all within the project team and to our client in a timely and appropriate manner.
  8. Find and address all types of project and contract risk.

 

ATTRIBUTES:

Essential

  • Experience at a senior level in management including bid development, key client management, commercial management, financial and contract management and a broad knowledge of contracts.
  • Experience of Project delivery across several sectors such as electrical infrastructure and construction, including compliance with CDM.
  • You are experienced in project management including the commercial aspects of project control, quantity surveying, change control and cost management.
  • Experience of business, project and contract risk management.
  • Experience of stakeholder management with client customers, sub-contractor, consultants, supply chain and third parties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels with clients, partners, UKPNS project teams and sub-contractors.
  • You will be a natural team leader who can motivate the team, set targets and manage performance reviews
  • You will be skilful in decision-making and meet tight deadlines.
  • You will have a higher education qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Desirable:
  • A broad understanding of CKI, UKPN and UKPNS businesses.
  • Advance or intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages.
  • To have strong and persuasive negotiating and influencing skills.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

We ask that you are highly experienced in project and maintenance environment with power system experience up to and including 132kV and demonstrable experience in managing large diverse teams and complex projects.

 

The job requires you to be highly experienced in commercial and contractual management. You will be independent and flexible with an adaptable approach to resolving issues.

The job holder will have the necessary gravitas to represent us at operational and senior management level with external partners.

The job holder will develop the outputs of delivery teams to meet clients’ expectations, ensuring that all work is completed safely, to budget, on time and observing the client’s requirements.

Work will be at multiple locations across the north of the UK.
