About us

Coventry & Solihull Waste Disposal Company (CSWDC) is an independent waste management company and our main business is extracting energy (heat and electrical power) from municipal and commercial solid waste. Based to the south of Coventry, CSWDC have been operating since 1975.

The Role

If you are interested in working whilst receiving high quality technical training as part of a recognised three year and a half year Apprenticeship programme, leading to a position in either plant operations or engineering maintenance, this role could be right for you.

The successful applicant will undergo industry specific mechanical and electrical training at the Uniper Engineering Academy in the South Nottinghamshire area of Ratcliffe on Soar on a residential basis. Successful completion of the 3.5 year programme will lead to the achievement of a BTEC Diploma (Technical Certificate) Level 3 in Engineering and an NVQ Level 3. The residential training will be for approximately 15 weeks in 2020, between 27 and 36 weeks in 2021 and between 10 and 15 weeks in 2022 with the remainder of the time spent at the plant facility in Coventry.

We will also develop the broader personal skills you will need to thrive in this exciting industry and take advantage of the excellent career prospects in our company.

The Person

We are looking for highly motivated, keen to learn individuals old who:

  • Have a responsible attitude to health, safety and the environment
  • Have a strong interest in and aptitude for Engineering and Waste Management
  • Can apply themselves to the academic and technical training demands of the Apprenticeship
  • Can be confident in using tools, equipment and IT
  • Can be flexible and able to participate in a shift rota once qualified
  • Have an interest in electrical and mechanical tasks
  • Can work as part of a team and alone as necessary
  • It is essential that you have (or are predicted to obtain) at least 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at level 4 or above, in English, Maths and a Science subject. Although not essential an ICT qualification would be an advantage.
  • You will also need to hold a full current driving licence, or demonstrate that you have a plan to achieve one by the time you complete your training.
