Salary: £51,500 - £77,300 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

About the Department
EPM & Investments aim is to create value-adding energy trading services for all stakeholders and external customers by providing superior returns and diversity of fuel supply through financial gas investments that are aligned to SSE's risk strategy. EPM & Investments also offers insight to support the SSE PLC portfolio, while supporting financial investment with well-managed exploration activity.
What is the Role
The Risk & Assurance Team within Energy Portfolio Management is responsible for managing the market risk & analysis, operational risk & analysis, credit risk and regulatory risks affecting our business and the markets we operate in. We are currently looking for a Risk Manager to join our team.
You will undertake a key role in the business leading a team who are responsible for the position management and reporting of risk matrices, Value at Risk and Profit at Risk. You will provide valuations and forecast earnings of physical assets (thermal power stations, gas storage, renewables assets) as well as nonstandard bilateral contracts (PPA's, swing contracts, indexed spreads and weather derivatives). Tasked with contributing to delivery of the budget, you will clearly communicate business plans to your team ensuring they are engaged. You will be comfortable with big data and demonstrate a flair for solutioning changing needs and requirements, including understanding the evolution of vendor system development.
Leading, coaching and managing your team you will create a culture for innovation and improvements, ensuring all ideas are captured and progressed, identifying and implementing opportunities to reduce costs and improve service.
What do I need?
We're looking for someone who will play a leading role in supporting the business in providing insight into financial risks created through operating and trading in the wholesale energy markets. Problem solving and mathematical modelling will be essential to your success in this role along with developing a comprehensive understanding of the European wholesale energy markets. Familiarity with Lacima Analytics and ZEMA would be highly beneficial. The FRM of ERP qualification from the Global Association of Risk Professional would also be advantageous.
You should have expert business acumen, be fully aware of the accounting and regulatory classification pertaining to energy commodities; have strategic awareness of the energy industry, strong influencing skills, and be a highly analytical thinker with the ability to distil complex information and communicate on a variety of levels.
Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills will be essential, to ensure collaboration within the business, the Energy Directorate and across the wider Group.
