ScottishPower Renewables (“SPR”) Control forms part of our corporate functions that is responsible for providing support services for all SPR companies including onshore, offshore and emerging technologies.
As a member of the Financial Accounting Team, you will have responsibility for ensuring all financial accounting matters are considered on behalf of the team, with key responsibility for overseeing the reporting of the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind joint venture as well as supporting the delivery of accounting for SPR’s main trading company ScottishPower Renewables UK Limited, playing a critical role in the delivery of reporting for both UK Renewables and Global Offshore Business.
This role will support the Financial Accounting Manager in the on-time delivery of key reporting deadlines in the Financial Accounting Team including month end reporting, disclosures and construction project finance committee reporting, as well as assisting in the maintenance and improvement of the control environment within SPR.
•Assist the FAM in ensuring the completeness and accuracy of results for all Renewables entities the UK.
•Undertake monthly Balance Sheet Analytical Reviews for responsible statutory entities to identify trend analysis, potential errors and key financial reporting issues.
•Undertake reviews of GRNs with key stakeholders across the business – challenging non-compliance with the processes and promoting the correct behaviours.
•Assist in the month end, hard close and year-end financial close-process to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the financial reporting under IFRS.
•Execute applicable Internal Controls ensuring that controls are completed on time and reviewed/, updated where necessary as part of the annual operation and design review processes.
•Provide support services and analysis in relation to the consolidation of the external trial balance for West of Duddon Sands into Iberdrola’s SAP.
•Support the FAM in the delivery of emerging technologies/acquisitions in relation to all financial and accounting matters to ensure accuracy within SAP, robust processes surrounding reporting and compliance with IFRS/IBE Group Policy.
•Ability to anticipate the necessary changes required to SAP, reporting and controls the impact of changes made to the existing Renewables business structure i.e. sale of an entity/entering into a JV.
•Responsibility for communicating with the JV partner on technical accounting matters to influence and reach sound conclusions.
•Be key in challenging processes to maximise efficiencies across the team and across SPR Control, taking ownership to advance actions required to make improvements as necessary.
•Contribute to a positive team environment within the Renewables Control team presenting a proactive attitude, whilst identifying and delivering process improvements where applicable.
•Build effective relationships with all key stakeholders within Control and across the business.
•Provide ad-hoc support to stakeholders within Control and the wider business as required.
Skills and Requirements
•Financial accounting experience with ability to understand and challenge technical matters.
•Prioritises and anticipates issues and problems and puts in place effective strategies to manage
•Excellent oral and written communication
•Ability to communicate financial concepts/issues to non-finance project staff
•Computer literacy, including spreadsheet skills and ledger posting
•An interest in financial systems - SAP experience is preferred
•Delivery focused and driven
•High level of resilience to deal with the changing demands and time-pressures of the role
•Ability to work remotely as part of a larger team to ensure that the function is fully integrated
•Ability to prioritise work and deliver accurately under acute time pressures
•Self-starter, ability to identify and execute process improvement opportunities
•A good understanding of the renewables markets
