About the role

Are you looking for an apprenticeship that is challenging, exciting and a fantastic opportunity to work with cutting edge technology? We are looking for apprentices wanting to start their career in the IT industry. Our IT team provide the supporting systems that help our business manage gas and electricity flows across England and Wales, in addition to the services that help all our workers do their daily jobs more effectively. The technology that empowers National Grid in this fast-changing energy industry needs to be innovative, reliable and secure. From desktop support to server and cloud projects, the role promises varied and interesting exposure to a broad range of technologies.

What you'll do

You could be working in a variety of roles, including:• Project Management – working on projects to deliver technology or applications with both our business customers and internal IT teams• Business Analysis – understanding, mapping and improving business processes and the systems that our customers in the business use• Supporting the design, planning, build and management of all underlying IT infrastructure platforms (including hardware, applications, data storage and networks)• Working on initiatives that help us collaborate better, work smarter, be more digital or implement new company-wide application changes.

Role Requirements

You must have, or be predicted to gain, a Grade C or above/4-9GCSE in English Language and/or Maths.

In addition to the GCSE requirements, you must also have one of the following sets of qualifications:

  • 2 A-Levels - 1 must be in Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Computing (Grade C or above)
  • BTEC National Certificate Level 3 in IT, Computing, IT Systems & Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems & Principles or Computing (Software Engineering Stream) (Merit or Distinction)
  • BTEC Diploma Level 3 in IT, Computing, IT Systems & Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems & Principles or Computing (Software Engineering Stream) (Merit or Distinction)
  • HNC/HND in IT, Computing, IT Systems & Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems & Principles or Computing (Software Engineering Stream) (Pass, Merit or Distinction)
  • Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computing

What you'll get

You will receive a starting salary of £24,017 and you will work towards a level 4 qualification or a foundation degree depending on the programme. You will also have access to a number of additional benefits such as 25 days’ holiday, full board accommodation whilst away at our training academy and all travel expenses paid for when you’re not at your base location.

You must be willing to relocate your primary location to within a 45 minute journey time to the location of the role
