Job Description

Job Purpose 

As a qualified and experienced HGV Mechanic you will work as an integral part of a structured team who are responsible for the efficient provision and maintenance of all fleet and plant assets for United Utilities at the most cost effective price.

This is an exciting challenge for you to take on the efficient, cost effective provision and maintenance of approximately 1,900 assets for the Company of which there are approximately 230 HGV vehicles. You will be working within a fast paced and challenging part of our business and we are looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our Fleet Management team

 

Job Accountabilities

  • Due to the diverse range of fleet and plant assets you will require the ability to repair and maintain fleet and plant in a cost efficient manner
  • Licence inspection, service and MOT preparation of HGV fleet
  • Inspection, service and MOT preparation of LCV fleet
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of United Utilities plant and fleet assets, ranging from items such as:
    • HGV, LCV and 4X4 Vehicles, plant items including pumps, tractors and trailers
  • Working with the wider business areas
  • Liaising with operators with regards to the maintenance and repair of fleet and plant assets
  • Commissioning and decommissioning fleet and plant assets
  • Keeping appropriate records and ensuring all documentation is filled in accurately and on time
  • Complying with Fleet management legislation and policies
  • Complying with United Utilities H&S regulations and policies
  • Participating in flexible working, standby and callout arrangements
  • Undertaking fault diagnosis via electronic computer software

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Time served apprenticeship, City & guilds level 3 in HGV maintenance and repair
  • IRTEC inspection technician qualification
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Class 1 HGV driving licence
  • Knowledge of Transport and Health & Safety Legislation
  • Team Working, organisational skills
  • Communication with customers and contractors
  • Vehicle diagnostic computer literate 

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Ideally you will have significant experience within a similar high volume mechanical environment with experience working on not just HGV but also LCV and plant and pumping systems
  • Understanding of the Operator's Licence and the regulatory framework within which the team operates

 

Additional Information

  • This is a shift role and will have a 10% enhancement, there will be no standby
