Salary: £36,900 - £56,500 depending on skills and experience + annual bonus

The Enterprise Division comprises four companies: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms and Utilities.
SSE Enterprise Telecoms operates a 13,700km private telecoms network, with 265 Points of Presence and connectivity to over 80 commercial data centres that span the UK. With its extensive telecoms engineering experience, the company provides commercial security with unrivalled in-house engineering resource to Service Providers, Large Enterprises and the Public Sector providing a competitive range of leading-edge Ethernet, Cloud Connect, Optical Networking and Co-location services.
We are currently recruiting for a Network Designer based in Perth, Glasgow or Edinburgh who will be responsible for the Design of LAN/WAN infrastructure to support connectivity to a variety of office, depot, Substation, Hydro, Windfarm and remote sites.
You will be involved in infrastructure design projects that support Data, Voice, Video, Protection and SCADA traffic. You will design and support the programme to expand the Operational Technology Network and support the migration programme of the existing legacy WAN/LAN services to the MPLS network.
The role will also require design support to the pre-sales teams who will be taking requirements from internal and external customers for growth and new services.
The successful candidate will be part of the Critical Infrastructure Design Team which consists of 7 designers with the opportunity for career progression to Lead Designer in the future.
Skills & Responsibilities
In order to be successful in this role, you will possess (or be working towards) Cisco Certified Design / Network Professional (CCDP/NP) or have equivalent proven expertise. You will have a technical understanding of data network technologies including IP, ethernet and MPLS. An understanding of Protection and SCADA networks and the application of data networking within this area would be beneficial.
Additionally, you will have demonstrable planning and implementation knowledge of telecommunication infrastructure technologies including fibre optic cabling, SDH/PDH multiplexers, microwave radio and ancillary equipment (space and power). A working knowledge of the following technologies: Wireless, IP Telephony (Avaya, Mitel) and Video Conferencing would be advantageous.
Candidates for this role should be highly confident with demonstrable initiative and have the ability to deliver projects on time and in budget.
