What is the Role?
At SSE Renewables, health and safety is our number one priority and, as a key member of the SSE Renewables Safety Leadership team, you'll be responsible for the SHE delivery for the Wind Operations business within SSE Renewables.

Reporting to the Renewable Operations SHE Manager and responsible for the Renewable Wind Operations, you'll support both the onshore and offshore Wind Operations senior management teams in their endeavours to keep people, assets and the environment safe from harm by actively applying and promoting SHE policies and standards across the group. You'll also oversee SHE in joint ventures where SSE Renewables is currently a non-operating partner and, where possible, influence SHE management of the Wind Operations assets, as appropriate throughout their lifecycle.
As a key member of the SSE Renewables Safety Leadership team you'll be responsible for the operational SHE delivery for the Wind Operations business within SSE Renewables. Youll support the Wind Operations team in their endeavours to keep people, assets and the environment safe from harm by actively applying and promoting SHE policies and standards across the group.
You'll have key responsibility for ensuring SHE Operations is a trusted partner both internally within the SSE Renewables SHE team and across the SSE Group, keeping the environment safe as projects are developed, delivered, operated and decommissioned. This will include the provision of the necessary support and guidance for the directorate to be able to manage their risks. Furthermore, you'll apply standards on the type of quality communication to all stakeholders within the SSE Renewables SHE team and the wider SHE function. You'll also be required to complete due diligence exercises, SHE assessments/audits of businesses, organisations and contractors as and when applicable. To do this you'll head up and guide a small team of SHE professionals to ensure t our customer requirements are fulfilled.
In addition to the above, you'll work closely with the Renewable Operations business to deliver our behavioural safety, Safety Family requirements in line with the Safety Family Programme, ensuring that it is delivered clearly, consistently and frequently, including working with preferred/strategic contractors to develop stronger, safer and respectful relationships on site. You'll also provide direct Leadership support to the Local Safety Groups.
What do I need?
You should hold a professional qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management and/or hold a scientific, engineering or equivalent qualification along with sufficient industry experience. Furthermore, you'll be a registered member of IOSH or equivalent accrediting body (or be willing to work towards this). You'll have experience of working in a high-hazard industry and have sound working knowledge of SHE regulations in the UK and Ireland in line with SSE Business Environments. You'll have a good understanding of SHE Management Systems, SHE Risks and UK Legal Framework along with a good eye for spotting business opportunities. Additionally, you'll have a sound knowledge of wind turbine safety rules and other practices.
You should be an excellent communicator with a natural flair for forging relationships with key stakeholders at all levels. You'll have the ability to work and deliver against challenging constraints. A problem solver and critical thinker, you will be able to simplify complex issues through to a well-structured systematic approach, understand risks and implement appropriate solutions. Above all, you'll demonstrate awareness of both personal and corporate safety practices.
Due to the level of mobility required in this role a full driving licence is essential.
